Weingut Schmalzried "The First Ecological Winery of Württemberg" and Member of Bundesverband Ökologischer
Weinbau (BÖW)News: 4th Ökowein-Festival with 10 ECOVIN wineries and Weinfest May 1st!
We work according to stringent rules in our vineyards and we do not use any types of artificial or
synthetic herbicides, pesticides or fertilizers. Absolutely no synthetic chemicals are sprayed on our plants. We promote a large variety of specially selected and naturally growing herbs/plants and animals beneath our
vines, which provide natural protection and nutrition for vines and grapes. Healthy grapevines produce healthy grapes when utilizing Nature’s methods of nurturing and protection. Furthermore, our meticulous selection of
the finest and hardiest vines helps keep the soil healthy and protects the grapes against mildew and other ailments. I
n our vineyards grows the traditional Trollinger, a rare red muscat, the Muskat- Trollinger, Lemberger, Dornfelder, Spätburgunder and the Samtrot-grape
. Who doesn’t know our ‘Maien-Riesling’! Fourty year old vineyards, an exquisite wine. The Kerner grapes are also known for filling a wineglass fit for a King. Also, among our grapes producing noble wines are the
Sylvaner, Müller-Thurgau and Scheurebe. Highly popular and an excellent delight are our dessert wines the Beerenauslese and the Gewürztraminer icewine . We maintain high levels of quality for the grapes we grow to
produce our wines. Sugar content of the gapes is carefully controlled. (In Germany, we use the measurement Oechslegrad that is based on the specific density of the grape
juice) Our grapes are all hand picked to insure that each bunch is properly ripened before being cut from the vine. Our red wines are fermented using the traditional open vats
method where the cap, that consists of skins and pips, is frequently submerged. The best qualities complete their fermentation in small Barrique-Barrels in which they remain until the optimum level of quality is reached. For white wines we utilize the whole grape or Champagne processing method using the
bladder press. We find that this method produces the highest quality wines. We do not use must heating. DearWinelover You can enjoy our wines with peace of mind because they have been created utilizing
state-of-art organic methods. We invite you to visit us on Sundays to walk through our
