Our wine-growing estate is in Württemberg, Germany, in the Remstal. Our vineyards are mainly at the nature monument Korber Kopf and at the
Kleinheppacher Kopf and also in the nearby Hanweiler. On this picture from June 2001 you can see behind me
our cellar at the base of the vineyards. On the left side there is the Hörnles Kopf with the vineyard Steinreinacher
Hörnle, on the right side there is the Kleinheppacher Kopf. A wine-tasting usually starts with an excursion to the nearby Hüttenweinberg. We have ca. 6ha vineyards, from the experimental vineyard, the vineyards at the Korber Kopf, that have
been planted in 1981, to the 40 years old Riesling in the vineyard Hanweiler Maien. Our vineyards (Einzellagen) are Steingrüble, Sommerhalde, Hörnle, Berg and Maien. The related ‘Großlagen’ are Kopf and Wartbühl. We normally separate the
wines of the different vineyards, but we also have vineyard Cuvées, that sometimes are simply called Württemberger. But this must not mean that they are of lesser quality, a good example for superior
quality is our 1998 Württemberger Dornfelder Spätlese Barrique. Barrique
wine is one of our specialities. The best red wines remain 1-2 years in a small classic Barrique barrel made out of best oak wood. While a wine is in a
Barrique barrel he gets a unique vanille- and wood flavor. An exellent Barrique wine is our 1999 KORBER STEINGRÜBLE Samtrot Auslese, harvested in the Hüttenweinberg by my nephew Dominik on the left picture.
I hope you have already saved yourself some bottles because this wine is sold out. On the picture below you can see the nature monument Korber Kopf. On the left hand side is the Hüttenweinberg, above right of the Hüttenweinberg is the Spitalweinberg. In the right middle of the picture is the excellent vineyard Wanne (Gips Keuper), which has an ideal climate and is optimally orientated to the south. His
top edge lines up with the Schilfsandsteinplatte, which also provides the plateau for the Kopf on the left side. Above are coloured (bunte) Mergel and on the top is the Stubensandstein without which the Kopf would already have been eroded away. In the official wine list for the cultivation area Württemberg are all in all 17 red and 15 white gra pe species recorded: From Spätburgunder to Portugieser up to Dornfelder, from Riesling over Müller-Thurgau to
Silvaner. Other german growing aeras do have a similar count of different kinds, but no area has so many wine specialities, which only grow in Württemberg: Trollinger, Schwarzriesling, Lemberger or Samtrot, just to mention a few.
